Oral surgery covers a wide range of procedures involving the teeth, mouth, jaw, and facial structures. While the term can sound intimidating, many common treatments fall under this category, including routine and complex tooth extractions, wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement, bone grafting, and corrective jaw procedures. At Fioritto Family Dental, we combine advanced training with state-of-the-art technology and special attention to your utmost comfort.
Our top oral surgeries include:
Sinus Lift

During the procedure, a small incision is made in the gum, and a tiny window is created in the bone. The sinus membrane is gently lifted, and bone graft material is placed underneath. Over several months, this graft integrates with your jawbone, providing the strength and density necessary to support a dental implant for a stable, long-lasting restoration.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy is a minor surgical procedure to correct issues caused by a tight, thick, or short frenum, a small band of tissue in the mouth. The most common types are the lingual frenectomy (under the tongue, also called “tongue-tie”) and the labial frenectomy (between the upper lip and gums). Lingual restrictions can interfere with speech, eating, and breastfeeding in infants, while labial restrictions can create a gap between the front teeth or contribute to gum recession. Using a soft-tissue laser, we can perform a precise, minimally invasive procedure that promotes faster healing and restores proper function.
Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom teeth, or third molars, typically emerge between ages 17 and 25. Often, the jaw does not have enough space to accommodate them, which can lead to impaction – teeth trapped beneath the gums or bone. Impacted wisdom teeth may cause pain, swelling, infection, or damage to adjacent teeth.
- Fully-Bony Impaction: The tooth is completely encased in bone, requiring careful removal by sectioning it into smaller pieces. This approach minimizes trauma to surrounding tissue but usually requires a longer healing period.
- Partial-Bony Impaction: The tooth has partially erupted but remains trapped under gum and bone. Removal involves lifting a small flap and removing obstructing bone. This procedure is generally less invasive but still requires careful planning to prevent infection and ensure proper healing.
Both procedures are performed safely with local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, oral sedation, or IV sedation, depending on your needs. 3D imaging ensures precise planning, particularly in relation to nearby nerves.
Periodontal Surgery
Gum surgery, or periodontal surgery, becomes necessary when non-surgical treatments cannot stop the progression of advanced gum disease. The goal is to remove deep bacterial pockets, smooth root surfaces, and regenerate lost tissue and bone. Flap surgery may be used to expose roots for thorough cleaning, while grafting procedures restore gum contours and support for teeth, helping to prevent tooth loss and stabilize oral health.
