Periodontics

Periodontics focuses on the supporting structures of teeth, namely the jaw, the gums, and connective tissue.  The doctors at Fioritto Family Dental are qualified to diagnose, treat, and prevent periodontal diseases; this includes training in a variety of cosmetic periodontal procedures.

Periodontal Treatments

When plaque and tartar build up onto the teeth, patients develop a condition known as periodontitis.  This is an advanced form of gum disease that includes infection in the soft tissue.  Over time, and without proper treatment, this can lead to the degradation of other oral supporting structures such as the jaw bone.  Periodontitis symptoms include:

  •  Swollen, tender gums
  •  Redness
  •  Bleeding gums
  •  Gum recession
  •  Pus that collects under the gums and seeps out
  •  Bad breath
  •  Loose and/or shifting teeth
  •  Difficulty chewing
  •  Tooth loss

If your gum disease reaches this advanced stage, tooth loss can be a real possibility.  With proper periodontal treatment, however, you can begin to reverse the damage and regain optimal oral health.  Your best chance to accomplish these goals is with our help.

 Periodontal Treatments

Depending on your particular case and how advanced your gum disease is, there are several treatment options our doctors may offer, including:

  •  Scaling and root planing
  •  Gum Grafting
  •  Dental implants

Our doctors and staff can reach the tartar at the root of teeth and remove it with hand scalers and/or ultrasonic instruments.  This can reduce irritation, eliminate infection, and create healthier conditions for teeth and supporting structures.

If there is significant diseased gum tissue in the mouth as a result of periodontitis, it may require gum removal.  In some cases, lost gum tissue can be replaced with gum grafting procedures.  In the unfortunate event of tooth loss, our dental implant specialist can offer replacement procedures such as dental implants to restore oral function and restore your smile.

Our doctors can also perform cosmetic procedures such as crown lengthening surgery to reduce excess gum tissue and expose more tooth surface area.

If you’re suffering from advanced gum disease, or you simply want to create a more cosmetically appealing smile through gum revision procedures, contact Fioritto Family Dental today at 440-951-5511 or reach out to us online to learn more.
